At Cockroach Labs, the past year has been filled with some extraordinary transformations. Today I’m pleased to mark another milestone, as we showcase our business acceleration and expansion, customer growth, and a new addition to our executive team.
We started this company as a small team frustrated with the lack of sophisticated database technology in the open source ecosystem. Since then, CockroachDB has helped some of the world’s best companies power their mission-critical workloads with a level of sophistication worthy of the promise of the global cloud. It has been exhilarating to see CockroachDB evolve into a product adopted by innovators in the Fortune 500.
Today, our enterprise customers include both established leaders and innovators across industries, including; two of the five largest banks in the world; fintech disruptors such as Nubank; media juggernauts Netflix and Comcast; four of the world’s largest technology companies and tech innovators such as, Fortinet, LaunchDarkly, and Rubrik; and two of the top five global automakers. And customers continue to double down on CockroachDB over the past few years, with an average expansion of 139% annually across the business.
Engineers at DoorDash have been sharing their experience working with CockroachDB in their engineering blog saying, “To address … scalability issues we did a major overhaul of the legacy architecture and adopted CockroachDB as its new storage engine. Our team’s goal was to utilize CockroachDB to build a scalable and reliable backend service that could fully support our business.”
The expansion of the company and our team is something I am proud of. Our continued investment in Europe last year led to revenue growth of 100%. We are also expanding in India, and have plans to expand our presence in Asian and Latin American markets later this year.
We are at a pivotal point in our business, doubling down on growth and expansion. This is why I am thrilled to share that Jason Forget has joined our team as new President and Chief Revenue Officer to help us accelerate into the next phase of growth in our business.
Jason is a seasoned go-to-market leader with experience growing companies such as Redis and Imperva from the ground up, and he will play a critical role in scaling Cockroach Labs to meet the opportunity ahead. While at Redis, as the first sales hire, he led them from zero to over 9,000 paying customers – including a sizable fraction of the Fortune 100. Before Redis, Jason led revenue at Imperva (NYSE: IMPV), and was responsible for building worldwide field operations that grew sales from $1M to $300M.
The database market is one of the largest and fastest-growing markets in software. The rapid growth of both the market and CockroachDB reflects a fundamental shift, as organizations across industries have transitioned to a cloud-first IT philosophy and are turning to distributed cloud databases to meet the increasing demands of data intensivity, business continuity, and global scale.
I’m pleased and excited to highlight these recent milestones in our journey to become the once-in-a-generation leader in operational databases. Our success is fundamentally tied to the success of our customers: the businesses providing the applications and services which the world relies on. Our mission is laser-focused on providing the foundational database technology that enables customers’ products to win in their markets by exploiting the potential of the cloud.
